Estimages is known for its fast and reliable velocity modelling solutions based on geostatistics. From our offices in France, Norway and Australia, we launch projects all over the world. It is time meet the people behind these projects.
First up is Marion Lagarrigue, managing director of the Norwegian office. She joined us in 2014 in Paris and soon transferred to Oslo. We asked her a few questions to find out more about her.
1️⃣ Can you briefly introduce yourself?
I’m Marion, 33 years old, born and raised in France, and now living in Oslo. I’m the Managing Director of Estimages Norge.
2️⃣ What’s your story? How did you join Estimages?
I studied science, particularly mathematics and physics. I completed my master’s degree in geophysics in Strasbourg, France, and graduated in 2014. I joined Estimages at their headquarters in Paris in March 2014 for a six-month internship. I remember that after just a month, I was asked to stay longer and continue beyond the internship. Since this meant I wouldn’t have to look for a job later, I accepted right away. The offer was for one of the international offices, either in Australia or Norway. I wasn’t ready to move to the other side of the world, so I ended up in Oslo in October 2014. Initially, it was only for a year, but I loved both the country and the job so much that, ten years later, I’m still here!
3️⃣ What do you do at Estimages?
I started with purely technical work and gradually became more involved in other areas over the years, until I eventually became the Managing Director of the Norwegian office. I handle a bit of accounting, some marketing, and communication. However, I’m still very much involved in the technical aspects of our projects. Since Estimages is a small company, you have to wear many hats, and I enjoy that.
4️⃣ What project are you working on now?
I just finished a Regional Velocity Model in Denmark for a client seeking CCUS opportunities in the country. It was a completely new project for us. We had never worked in this area before, but I have good knowledge of the geology of the North Sea from building velocity models on the Norwegian and UK sides. It was interesting to see how things look on the Danish side. It was also my first time working on both onshore and offshore models.
5️⃣ What do you do in your spare time?
Sunday walks in the forests around Oslo are a must, of course. On foot in the summer, on skis in the winter. Oslo is a capital very close to nature and it is perfect if you need greenery in your life. This year I bought myself a season to the Oslo opera house as well. I am excited to see great singers and dancers perform on the stage!
6️⃣ Final question: coffee or tea?
Tea, definitely. I bring a thermos to work every day. I wish I liked coffee, but no matter how many times I’ve tried it, I just can’t enjoy it. Maybe one day…
