Geostatistics for geophysics
Geostatistics are more and more present in the Oil & Gas industry – well established and recognized by reservoir engineers for petrophysical properties simulations for instance.
How we use it
Interpretative Filtering
Powerful horizon-guided, this workflow was created to filter dataset with complex geological context (i.e. high faults throws).
Combined with the Moving Geostatistics® algorithm, the Interpretative Filtering allows an optimal cleaning of your data using your interpretations or ours coming from the paleoscan software.
Singular Value Decomposition
This technique was adopted to address directionnal noise impacting dataset in a context of strong geology dips. Faster than the Interpretative Filtering workflow, it allows a very good preservation of faults and detailed geologic features.
It relies on the seismic image decomposition in eigenvalues. The results then depend on the chosen threshold: the detailed volume should retain geological features and the directional noise should be isolated in the gross volume. Then, a factorial kriging is applied to filter out the gross volume, thus not touching the signal.
